The FOCUS program may appear to just be an escape route for troubled youth, but it is not a way for troubled youth to be in denial of their actions. The FOCUS program’s approach caused my youth to face their actions, the consequences of their actions, and that every action might cause a reaction. The youth substance use disorder prevention program seems to have taught my youth to accept responsibility for actions.

The FOCUS program also appears to be designed to encourage parents to reflect on the factors that may have influenced their child’s behavior. This includes examining whether they were overly controlling, demanding, or smothering, or if they lacked the knowledge or wisdom needed to provide balanced attention. By addressing these dynamics, the program plays an essential role in substance use disorder prevention for families, helping to foster healthier communication and relationships that reduce the risk of substance-related issues.
