How much does an Assessment cost?
Costs vary depending on the type of assessment and your funding source. Most assessments cost $100. North Carolina DWI assessments are $100 for each outstanding DWI. An out-of-state DWI requires an additional $75 processing fee, and a small number of states carry extensive paperwork requirements that bring the total to $260.
What should I remember when coming in for an assessment?
Plan to be here for approximately two to three hours, and please don’t bring children with you. Bring all required paperwork, especially anything DWI or court-related showing your BAC at the time of arrest, along with your current medications and Medicaid or insurance card. If you don’t have your documentation, you can request a copy from the county clerk’s office; if your records are no longer available, ask the clerk’s office for a written statement confirming that. If you’ve been assessed elsewhere, bring documentation from that assessor showing the date and recommended level of care. DWI assessments are valid for six months, so if you haven’t entered treatment within that window, a new assessment will be required. If you need to cancel, please call ahead to let us know.

How long does it take DMV to process paperwork?
Once your paperwork has been sent to DMV, processing typically takes two to eight weeks.
